Heavy-duty cooling,
where the line never stops.

Hundreds of critical cooling installations in steel mills, foundries and paper plants worldwide rely on AFI SML smartfans™ and HD heavy-duty fans — built to run continuously in corrosive, abrasive and high-temperature atmospheres while cutting the power bill.

The duty

Rising energy costs meet the harshest atmospheres on Earth.

Pulp and paper mill with stacks releasing steam

Demanding energy needs and their rising costs constitute a major challenge to the steel and paper industries. Designed to provide high performances by minimizing power consumption, our fans are cooling hundreds of critical and continuous processes worldwide. The HD series can operate in very harsh environments and resists the corrosion and erosion phenomena typical of steelworks, foundries and pulp & paper plants — keeping primary cooling online and the production line moving.

Energy that never stops

Continuous-process steel and paper plants run cooling 8,760 hours a year. Every percent of fan efficiency directly cuts megawatt-hours and a six-figure power bill.

Heat, dust and acid air

Sinter plants, blast furnaces and recovery boilers expose fans to high temperatures, abrasive particulate and aggressive chemistry. Materials and coatings have to match.

Reliability is production

An unscheduled cooler shutdown stops the entire line. Robust hubs, corrosion-resistant airfoils and field-replaceable blades keep mills producing.

The solution · SML · HD

Two fan platforms for the steel mill and the paper plant.

From auxiliary utility cooling to primary cooling towers and ACHE banks running in corrosive, high-temperature service — each series answers a precise operating profile.

SML SeriesAuxiliary cooling, dry coolers & utility fans

Around the steel mill and the paper plant, hundreds of factory-assembled cooling units handle hydraulics, lube oil, compressed air and process water. The SML smartfans™ series — aluminum or FRP airfoils, adjustable pitch and the highest efficiency in its diameter class — keeps utility cooling running at minimum power consumption, year after year.

Heavy-duty · large-diameter primary cooling

HD SeriesCooling towers, ACHE banks & process coolers

The HD Series is engineered for the brutal duty of steelworks and paper mills: large cooling towers, air-cooled heat exchangers and primary process coolers running in atmospheres loaded with iron oxides, sulphur compounds and pulping chemistry. Hot dip galvanized hub disc, FRP airfoils with stainless steel leading-edge protection and operation from −45 °C to +80 °C let the same fan serve a tropical mill or a Nordic plant — and resist the corrosion and erosion that cripple lesser fans.

  • Hot dip galvanized hub · field-replaceable blades
Build your study

Send us the duty data — we'll send back cooling that survives the mill.

Our engineering team will analyse your cooling towers, ACHE banks and utility skids, evaluate the corrosive load and outline a retrofit or new-build plan tailored to your plant.
